Dr. Hess looked at Benji's eye and said it was healing nicely.

Because Benji is eating, drinking, and running around like normal, Dr. Hess is not worried about him.

Dr. Hess had apologized about having to wait for the surgery because of the tube and all that but I said that I would rather you be cautious and prepared rather than just going ahead with the surgery.

Dr. Hess is such an nice guy. He was telling us all the animals he has had a chance to work on...amazing! From tigers to ostriches and such. Dr. Hess is such a great person to talk to as well. He listens and talks to you as a person and doesn't rush anything. The care he puts in for the animals is real dedication.

So, Benji is to finish his antibiotics (for another 4 days) and the pain meds for about another 4 to 5 days. I am so happy for Benji. once his fur is all grown back, no one would be the wiser!

One thing I must say that it was a challenge to find a way to get there. Yesterday, I discovered that my van has a leak from a hose that connects the coolant to the engine. The reservoire was completely empty and there was a trail of coolant down the road. A friend of mine was gracious enough to lend me her van which was a blessing. The downfall is that I won't be able to get my van fixed until the end of the month (I hope).

THANK YOU ALL FOR SAVING MY BENJI !!!!!!!!!!!!Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-90112914450452424262008-10-10T10:32:00.001-04:002008-10-10T10:32:53.099-04:00Benji's Surgery

Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-81704413464909217932008-10-10T09:46:00.003-04:002008-10-10T09:50:40.668-04:00HOMEWell, Benji had a good night last night. I kept both Benji and Bugsy in their stroller next to my bed just in case of anything but the night was uneventful! I guess bugsy cleaned Benji during the night because this morning all that dried blood is gone.

They both ate together this morning after I put them back in their area. I gave Benji his anitbiotics and pain meds this morning without a hitch. Haviva suggested that I put the pill in a raisin and boy that worked well!

Right now they are both relaxing. We bring Benji back in 10 days for a post-op re-check. He will be on the meds until then.

I want to thank all of you so much for all the support you have given us. It has been so amazing to know that so many of you support us. The outcome of this is that now Benji will be pain and trouble free and it is all because of you. Without the financial and moral support, we could not have done this. Give yourselves a pat on the back and a big round of applause!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mQXa3y02ENU/SO9dBrKSHkI/AAAAAAAAAH4/K6apcM10V98/s320/friendship_quotes_graphics_01.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255521573511765570" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_mQXa3y02ENU/SO9dlsNBQnI/AAAAAAAAAIA/Pqhk6umiN9g/s320/image25.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5255522192266969714" />

Cynthia, Nathan, Benji and BugsySequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-16219175704660713372008-10-10T09:45:00.001-04:002008-10-10T09:45:42.248-04:00Benji is OUT of SurgeryWell, Benji got out of surgery at about 3 PM. The surgery went well but took longer than they anticipated because they was alot of abnormal tissue behind his eye. They sent it off to pathology to be tested to find out exactly what it is.

I have taken more pictures but will only be able to post later tonight. Have no idea what time Benji will be discharged.

Bugsy is in with him. She sniffed him a bit bu tI think she is a little nervous herself and she is also a little hot because of the heat lamp on Benji. I am sitting with them the whole time. I just took a break so I could come and update you all.

He is still really out of it, but did lift his head as soon as Bugsy was put in the cage with him!

I think the next time I post will be after we get home unless something changes.Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-51075963458244085422008-10-10T09:44:00.001-04:002008-10-10T09:44:47.505-04:00SURGERY is UNDERWAYBenji got his sedation needle at about 12:30 PM I held him for most of the time.

At 1:00 PM Haviva came in the room to get Benji.

At about 1:30 PM Dr. Hess came out to tell me that Benji was successfully intubated!!!

I ask him about how long it takes and he replied by saying that Benji is a DNR. That freaked me out because I know it as Do Not Resesatate. He said no, it means Do Not RUSH!

I felt much better!

Bugsy is with us until Benji comes out of surgery, then she will be brought to him.

My stomach is in knots. I got a picture of Benji after he was tubed but I will have to wqit to post until we get home.

All for now.Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-91842188736764954442008-10-09T09:35:00.003-04:002008-10-09T09:37:43.977-04:00SURGERY IS TODAYBenji is scheduled for surgery today, October 9, 2008 at 1 PM. The Tubes came in on Monday.
Haviva told us to bring in Bugsy too so that Benji would have company while there. Hopefully we will be able to bring him home today as well. Let's pray that all goes well.Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-85744322638059257812008-09-30T13:23:00.002-04:002008-09-30T13:32:08.969-04:00POSTPONED..... AgainSurgery has been postponed again due to the non arrival of the proper endotrachial tubes that were ordered last week. Haviva has called to find out where they are and they can't tell her where they are.
The good news is that Benji is not in any pain or experiencing any complications from his eye at the moment. Haviva will call me as soon as she gets it in.Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-33511221015596633332008-09-26T18:58:00.001-04:002008-09-26T19:00:42.967-04:00SURGERYBenji went in for the surgery, but there was a problem with the endotracial tube. They were finally able to get it in (Benji's throat was swollen) but when they replaced him for the surgery, the tube came out and ruptured a blood vessel. They got the bleeding stopped right away but they can't get the tube back in and do not want to do the surgery without the tube because if anything goes wrong, they can't bag him. So.....

This just means that we need to come back next week once Benji is healed and try this again. It is too risky to continue the surgery today and I don't want to take the chance of loosing him. He was given pain meds and we are just waiting for him to wake up some before we head home.

I took a couple of pictures of him while he was still on the operating table. I will post as soon as I can.Sequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4273910200836536291.post-74710088836567675692008-05-17T21:34:00.003-04:002008-08-26T16:01:36.091-04:00PleaSequiahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17458265445000712251noreply@blogger.com19
